Ferras Zalt – Chief Executive Officer
Ferras has over 20 years of leadership and entrepreneurial experience, setting up and
investing in early stage
companies and achieving
significant success. Through his leadership style, his vision and his reputation in the investment
community he has achieved
significant valuation growth and several fold returns on
investment to shareholders of the companies he has been involved in.
Early in Ferras’ career, he held positions at NASA Space Agency, and Compaq Corp in the USA and in 1991 he joined Saudi Aramco as a Senior Manager. In 1995 Ferras founded Softech, an IT consultancy business with a focus on the energy sector to
capitalise on the need for specialist IT technical services particularly in Saudi Arabia. Softtech grew rapidly and went on to deliver the largest SAP installation in the world at the time in ARAMCO, Saudi Arabia. In 1995 Ferras sold the company to Softech achieving several fold returns on invested capital and remained on as CEO to drive the business to further success. In 2007, as a result of a global repositioning strategy, Ferras had the opportunity to lead a management buy out of the Company and within 2 years sold the company to Hewlett Packard, achieving significant returns to investors.
Ferras has engaged in several other ventures, particularly in the energy sector. In 2008 he led a significant investment in a promising oil & gas services company in Oman and since then has already managed to enable expansion in the local market and gain entry into the lucrative Iraq market which has already delivered
considerable valuation growth to investors.
Ferras holds a MSc and Bachelors in Computer Science and Mathematics.
Mark Shinners ACA – Chief Financial Officer
Mark is the Chief Financial
Officer at Chinook Urban
Mining Ltd and is responsible for finance, HR and operations. Mr Shinners is also responsible for the commercial aspects of EfW projects, including power purchase agreements, feedstock supply, EPC and project funding.
Mark has over 15 years experience in various senior operational and financial advisory roles spanning across a number of industry sectors including IT, construction, renewable energy and manufacturing.
Having trained as a chartered accountant at PwC, Mark went on to hold leadership positions in assurance, corporate finance and financial advisory, providing financial, commercial and strategic advice to large multinational and regional companies. This included financial and commercial due diligence, valuation, deal structuring,
feasibility studies, business plans, financial modelling and other advisory services.
In 2006, Mark joined Atos Origin Middle East as Director of Finance to support the company’s growth and acquisition strategy and ultimate sale of the business to Hewlett Packard in 2007. Since then, he has worked alongside Mr. Zalt, taking up advisory and operational roles in several private equity investments including successful investments in both the mainstream and renewable energy sector.
Mark is a Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA), has a Bachelor of Business Studies degree (BBS), a Masters in Accounting & Finance (Macc), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and is a Chartered Waste Manager. Mark is also technically competent in taxation matters having completed the taxation exams set by the Irish Taxation Institute.
Zara Lababedi – Project Development Executive
Zara joined the Senior Management team in October 2012.
Zara’s previous experience includes investing in, developing and managing real estate assets in the UK, her roles have varied from acquisition surveyor to managing and directing the planning and design of projects. In addition, Zara has gained significant experience by working with her family office, working directly with the director of an investment group providing capital to cross-sectorial start-ups and early stage companies.
Zara holds an Executive MBA from Imperial College London, a Masters in Sustainable Development from University College London and a Bachelors Honours degree in Economics & Development from Manchester University.
Faisal Dajani – Project Development Executive
Faisal joined the team to aid Chinook progress their pipeline of future developments. He previously worked in a family-run boutique private equity firm in London specialising in mining opportunities in emerging markets. Faisal’s responsibilities included analysing prospective projects and developing existing programs for the company.
Faisal has an an Executive MBA from Imperial College London, a Masters in Innovation Management & Technology Policy and an undergraduate degree in Business Economics.
Sarah Chaudhry ACA – Financial Controller
Sarah joined the team in 2014 and has responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the finance department. This includes all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.
Sarah trained as a Chartered Accountant with EY and went on to hold a number of senior financial positions across a number of different sectors most recently as Finance Director for Battersea Power Station.
Sarah is a member of the Institute of Chartered accountants Ireland, holds a Degree in Corporate Law and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
Peter Hynes – Project Consultant
Peter is the Managing Director of Chinook Urban Mining and has responsibility facility site readiness and deployment. This includes site identification, site pre-
qualification, site acquisition, planning and
permitting approvals and the provision of utility services.
Peter was formerly a Partner at KPMG Advisory Services in the Middle East, and in this role delivered many complex and challenging technology projects. Peter had full commercial,technical and delivery responsibility for the business performance management practice.
Prior to the KPMG role, Peter was Vice President of Energy Solutions for Atos Origin Middle East. In this role, Peter had responsibility for delivering some of the most
challenging technology projects in the region, directing a diverse professional
services team of more than 200 people.
Common to these former roles is the provision of high-end advisory services,
including strategic consulting and extensive project and project management
and consistent, high quality, complex project delivery.
Peter has a degree in International Business and Finance, a Masters in Business Administration and is a Chartered Waste Manager.
